Interior Designers (Part- & Full-Time)

Our designers help clients with low to moderate budgets throughout NY, NJ, CT, and Washington DC.

We work with vendors like Ikea, Target, Crate and Barrel, Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, Overstock, Room and Board, etc.

We don’t do any custom work or handle renovations. Our projects are only decoration, i.e. furniture, artwork, paint, and accents. See our services page for more details about exactly what we do.

Interior designers must be located/able to work in Washington, DC.

They must be a self-starter who is able to manage their own clients and schedule. They excel at:

  • connecting with new people.

  • organizing work materials and schedules.

  • timeliness. Promptness and reliability are of the utmost importance.

  • learning new modes of working/operating. At Uploft, we use a proprietary method when working with clients that all our designers must adapt to.

  • artistry. We create designs based on our clients’ style preferences—not based on our personal styles. We are looking for designers who are open to working in many different styles.

Required

  • based in the Washington, DC area with access to a car

  • has a flexible schedule, including the ability to work on weekends as needed

  • at least 3 years of work experience

  • strong oral communication skills

  • excellent people skills

  • detail-oriented and meticulous in reviewing work

  • experience in the interior design field

This person is upbeat, outgoing, and eager to adapt to the Uploft method.

They can also communicate well via email and in-person.

This organized professional must be detail-oriented and adept at juggling simultaneous client projects, knowing which to prioritize while not losing track of less urgent items.

The right person is able to quickly work online with multiple software systems, like Google Suite and floor plan software.  

Our ideal candidate is a self-starter whose goal is to please clients and create beautiful designs.

This team player is honest, prompt, and genuinely cares about their work, our company, and our clients.

Preferred

  • experience working in interior design in some capacity

  • proficiency in Google Suite

  • proficiency in floor plan and mood board software

  • 4-year degree 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties for this Interior Designer position include the following items:

  • Meeting with clients in person and virtually.

  • Using Uploft’s proprietary system when working with clients.

  • Creating designs, floor plans, and mood boards that are tailored to the clients’ tastes.

  • Shopping exclusively from online retailers. We don’t recommend or source from any custom or trade-only vendors.

Paid per project, $30,000-$90,000/year depending on workload

Our Team

Our design firm is a small group of superstars.  Founded in 2005 and originally based in NYC, we have expanded to the Westchester area.  In addition to all the boroughs of New York City, we offer our design expertise to New Jersey, Long Island, and Washington, D.C.

While we are small, we are mighty.  We have been featured in numerous press outlets including NBC’s Today Show, HGTV, Lifetime, DIY Network, Wall Street Journal, and many more.  

We also offer educational events, master classes, and night classes for design enthusiasts.  We have a hardcover design book, weekly podcast, regular Facebook Live events, a blog, and are expanding to new forms of media as well.
