We are a small team of superstars.
Our designers have worked at high-end places (Armani, Thom Filicia, Inc., The Metropolitan Museum, Soho Grand Hotel, etc.) where we spent thousands on furnishings from exclusive boutiques for our clients.
But that's not where we shopped for ourselves. We translated luxe looks to fit our budgets at places like West Elm, Overstock, & Ikea. In 2005, our founder had an ah-ha moment: "Let's do this for our friends, our family, everyone we know!"
And, just like that, Affordable Interior Design was born. Our passion is creating upscale looks--for so much less!

She penned a popular DIY design book, “BIG DESIGN, SMALL BUDGET, Create a Glamorous Home in Nine Thrifty Steps” (Skyhorse), and hosts a weekly home decorating podcast (syndicated on iTunes) by the same name.
Her firm has grown to serve clients in New York City, New Jersey, Westchester, Long Island, and parts of the Hudson Valley. Betsy also helps clients virtually in other parts of the country with online classes and a weekly Facebook Live chat where she dishes out design wisdom for free.
Allison Rachlis came to Affordable Interior Design after a 7-year career at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, where she served as Associate Director of Visual Merchandising and Store Design. She previously worked for the Giorgio Armani where she took part in the design of the Armani Store on 5th Avenue as well as working on residential spaces for their VIP clients.
She began painting murals and working on landscape projects for commercial and residential spaces throughout NYC. After studying indoor and outdoor design, she discovered that by combining both elements, a beautiful design concept can transform a space into a livable work of art.
